Located in the Shivalik Hills and at an altitude of 1437 m. Gangtok is the capital and the largest town of the Indian state of Sikkim and is also known as the land of monasteries, as it has got maximum number of monasteries in the whole world. It is a significant Buddhist Pilgrimage Centre and Buddhist people visit this place every year. Gangtok is situated in the eastern Himalayan range, nestled within higher peaks of the Himalaya Mountain and having mild temperate climate year-round, Gangtok is the most important centre of the tourism industry of Sikkim.
The tourists here can have complete enjoyment in terms of adventure, climate, religious tours and unparalleled natural beauty. Gangtok is a cosmopolitan city offering all possible amenities to the travelers here. Cyber cafes, pool parlours, night clubs and Shopping complexes are available in good number for those who love the night life.
MG Marg, the main street of Gangtok is a great place to chill out throughout the day, it’s the country’s first litter and spit free zone, no vehicular traffic is allowed into the marg. This place is also the venue for the annual Gangtok Food and Culture festival held in December every year when Sikkim’s multi-cultural cuisine, along with music and dance performances is exhibited.
For a complete view of Gangtok and all its surrounding, you can go to Ganest Tok located on a ridge at a distance of seven kilometers from Gangtok, from this place you can get a view of sprawling Gangtok town, while across the hills Mt. Khang-chen-Dzonga and Mt. Siniolchu loom over the horizon. The view from Ganest Tok is truthfully incredible with snow peaks providing the wonderful background for a panoramic view of Gangtok town.
You can also visit the Namgyal Research Institute of Tibetology, it is the most prestigious research institute of its kind in the whole world, it is a treasure of vast collection of rare Tibetan, Lepcha and Sanskrit manuscripts, statues and rare Thankas (colorful tapestries used in Buddhist liturgy). Except for an attractive museum, it has over two hundred Buddhist icons and other prized objects of art and also a renowned centre for study of Buddhist philosophy and religion in the world.

Arrive Siliguri – drive to Gangtok
On your arrival NJP railway station or Bagdogra airport our driver will meet and greet you.
Drive to Gangtok located at a distance of 130 km and 4:00 hour drive. Gangtok is capital of Sikkim and is situated at a height of 5500 feet with spectacular views of Mount Kanchenjunga.
On your arrival in Gangtok, check in at the hotel.
Rest of the day is free. In the evening you can go for a stroll to MG Road.

After breakfast we take you for half day sight seeing tour of Gangtok visiting:
- Do Drul Chorten –Stupa.
- Research Institute of Tibetology – houses a collection of rare Tibetan and Sanskrit manuscripts.
- Govt. Institute of Cottage Industry (a preservation center for traditional arts and crafts of Sikkim).
- Enchey Monastery (a 200 year old monastery).
- Hurhurey Dara at Namnang.
- Gangtok Ropeway (cover a distance of 1 km in 7 minutes and takes you to the highest point in Gangtok).
You may also take an optional early morning tour (at extra cost) of Gangtok visiting:
- Tashi View Point – 8 kms from the city, one can get magnificent views of Mount Kanchenjunga from here.
- Ganesh Tok – located 7 Kms from the city on a ridge, one can see the whole town of Gangtok from here. You can also see Mount Kanchenjunga and Mount Siniolchu.
- Hanuman Tok – 9 km from the city, situated at a height of 7200 feet, it is a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman.

Gangtok - Tsongmo Lake Excursion
Have an early breakfast at the hotel.
At around 8 am leave for Tsongmo Lake, some 40km from Gangtok, situated at an altitude of 12,300 feet and it is 3:00 hour drive. This is the most visited lake in Sikkim. The lake is associated with many myths and legends and is considered sacred by the locals.
We also visit Baba Harbhajan Mandir situated at an altitude of 13,200 feet.
Some 18 km from Tsongmo lake is the famous Nathula Pass. You can optionally book visit to Nathula Pass and an extra cost. But this has to be done at time of your booking only as you need to have a permit to visit Nathula pass. Foreign national are not allowed to visit and photography is strictly prohibited. Nathula can not be visited on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Return to Gangtok by evening and stay overnight.
Depart Gangtok
Breakfast at the hotel.
Check out time is 12:00 noon.
Transfer to NJP railway station or Bagdogra airport for your train / flight to onward destination.
